Contents. In this note we prove the Cartan Hadamard theorem for metric spaces of nonpositive curvature and deduce some topological consequences of this theorem. Mainly we follow the section 4 in chapter II of the book "Metric spaces of nonpositive curvature" by Bridson and Haefliger.
