Abstract: I start by stating the Riemann--Hilbert problem and explaining classical results obtained toward its solution. In the second part of the lecture I will explain ongoing work with Masa-Hiko Saito in which we apply the ideas introduced previously to provide an explicit birational map from a logarithmic Dolbeault moduli space to a Hilbert scheme of points on a ruled surface.
