Abstract: My goal in this talk will be to motivate why looking at distribution algebras associated to p-adic lie groups is natural in the context of number theory and more specifically in the p-adic Langlands program. And then with the help of a relatively simple example I will give an overview of techniques used in my work to deduce a structure theorem about `overconvergent' distribution algebras. In the process I will explain why this kind of structure theorem is natural in this area of research.
