Abstract: We'll construct a sequence of spin hyperbolic surfaces with genus going to infinity and with a uniform spectral gap for the Dirac operator. The surfaces in question will arise from a tower of abelian covers of an arithmetic surface. Based on joint work with Anshul Adve.
