Abstract: Geometric transcendence deals with analogues of certain problems in transcendental number theory in the setting of algebraic geometry; the motivating question is to understand when the image of an algebraic variety under a transcendental map remains algebraic. In this talk, we will give an introduction to this field and then discuss recent work, joint with Matteo Tamiozzo, where we a prove geometric transcendence result for Weierstrass elliptic functions.
