Abstract: Right-angled Coxeter groups (RACGs) are defined by graphs, and both hyperbolicity and finiteness properties, such as virtual fibering, can be detected through combinatorial conditions on the defining graph. A group is said to virtually fiber if it has a finite-index subgroup that surjects onto Z with a finitely generated kernel. In this talk, based on joint work with Lafont, Minemyer, Stover, and Wells, I will describe an iterative construction of defining graphs that produces RACGs which are simultaneously hyperbolic and virtually fiber, while increasing the virtual cohomological dimension by exactly one at each step.
