Abstract: This is a report on ongoing joint work with Frances Kirwan and Andrew Dancer. I will discuss the symplectic implosion and contraction operations in equivariant geometry, their analogues in hyperkaehler geometry, and how they can be interpreted in terms of Moore-Tachikawa categories.
