Abstract: I intend to survey that part of Grothendieck's post-1970 mathematics which is directly connected with the fundamental group of various objects, including fundamental groupoids and their various completions. Moduli stacks of curves and more generally acyclic manifolds (resp. schemes, resp. 1-stacks) play a prominent role in this facet of Grothendieck's legacy
