Abstract: The Question Mark function (defined by Minkowski in 1904) is a homeomorphism of the interval/ real line/ circle in which a continued fraction expansion is converted to a dyadic expansion. It has many remarkable properties: it is Hölder, singular and not a quasi-symmetry. We will slot the question mark in a few contexts: for example, as the density of a stationary measure, or as the trace of the homeomorphism from the Rauzy to the Sierpinski gasket, or in the context of conformal welding. We will then survey some results in these broader contexts.
