Vigyan Vidushi Program

The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai organizes a two-week summer school, the Vigyan Vidushi program in Mathematics for Indian women students in mathematics. The aim of this program is to expose participants to some advanced core topics in mathematics and encourage them to consider research in mathematics as a career option. The selected students will get an opportunity to attend lecture courses on a variety of topics. There will also be special lectures and interaction sessions with women researchers.

The courses will focus on strengthening basic understanding of core mathematical concepts. Conveying the unique perspectives of active researchers will be an essential feature of this summer school.

There will be short courses on

  • topics in algebra,
  • topics in topology and geometry,
  • topics in real and complex analysis.

In addition to the regular courses, the Vigyan Vidushi-Mathematics will have

  • special lectures by established mathematicians, and
  • interaction sessions with mathematicians who are at various career stages.

Eligibility

  • Women students enrolled in the first year of a two-year MSc degree program in mathematics, or the fourth year of an Integrated BSc-MSc degree program in mathematics (or equivalent).
  • Exceptionally good, motivated women students in the final year of their bachelor degree program or the third year of an Integrated BSc-MSc degree program in mathematics (or equivalent) may also apply.
