About Our Publications

Editorial Board: Subhajit Goswami, Swarnava Mukhopadhyay, Arvind Nair (Chairperson)

Since the early years the School engaged itself in publication of mathematical literature. The publications of the School fall under three series:

  1. The Studies in Mathematics
  2. Lecture Notes on Mathematics
  3. Mathematical Pamphlets

Studies in Mathematics

Studies in Mathematics series consist of monographs and proceedings of conferences and the four-yearly International Colloquia held at the Institute.

Lecture Notes on Mathematics

Lecture Notes series consists of notes of courses given by distinguished visiting mathematicians. Notes provided by the speakers were also produced as lecture notes. These cover a wide variety of topics, and have been well-received by the mathematical community.

Mathematical Pamphlets

This series was started in the 1960's in response to a demand from University teachers and research students in India who wanted to acquire a knowledge of some of those branches of mathematics which were not a part of the curricula for ordinary university degrees. Five volumes were published.

Notebooks of Srinivasa Ramanujan

The facsimiile edition of the manuscripts of Srinivasa Ramanujan were first published by TIFR in two volumes in 1957. In 2011, on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research brought out a two-volume Collector's Edition of the ``Notebooks of Srinivasa Ramanujan''. They are available for purchase from TIFR.

Where to buy:

Since 1998 the books are published for the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research by the Narosa Publishing House, New Delhi, and since 2007, also by the Hindustan Book Agency. Both publishers also undertake distribution of the books in India and the neighbouring countries. Since 1997, international distribution of the books is done by the American Mathematical Society, under a standing arrangement. Notebooks of Srinivasa Ramanujan are available for purchase from TIFR.

The Tata Institute holds the copyright for all the volumes.

The first 86 volumes under the Lecture Note series have been retypeset and made them available for free download for individual use from our website. Some of the volumes under the Studies in Mathematics series have also been made available for free download, while the rest of the volumes in that series will be made available soon.

These have been retypeset and proof read once. However, it is quite possible that some errors still remain. Please mail any errata you note to publ @ math.tifr.res.in.

Acknowledgements of corrections will be made.
