- Feb 10, 2022: Professor Vijaylaxmi Trivedi was elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru.
- Sep 30, 2021: The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize of CSIR for the year 2021 in Mathematical Sciences has been awarded to Professor Anish Ghosh of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. Anish Ghosh works in the ergodic theory of Lie groups and in number theory.
- May 18, 2021: The Institute deeply regrets to announce the passing away of Professor M.S. Narasimhan, Honorary Fellow of the Institute, on May 15, 2021 in Bangalore. He was 88 years old. Professor Narasimhan joined the School of Mathematics as a graduate student in 1953, and retired as a Professor of Eminence in 1990. He remained closely associated with the School till the end.
- Jul 18, 2020: The Institute deeply regrets to announce the passing away of Professor C.S. Seshadri on July 17, 2020 in Chennai. He was 88 years old. Professor Seshadri joined the School of Mathematics as a graduate student in 1953, and continued as a faculty member of TIFR till 1984. He made several fundamental contributions in algebraic geometry and algebraic groups.
- Jun 06, 2014: The School of Mathematics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research regrets to announce the passing away of Professor Vikram B. Mehta on June 04, 2014. Professor Mehta was a senior member of the Mathematics Faculty. He retired from the service on August 31, 2011.

- Oct 30, 2013: Dr. Neena Gupta was awarded the Saraswathi Cowsik Medal for the year 2013 by the TIFR Alumni Association for her outstanding work on the Zariski Cancellation Problem in positive characteristic.
- Sep 27, 2013: The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize of CSIR for the year 2013 in Mathematical Sciences has been awarded to Professor Eknath Prabhakar Ghate of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, for his foundational contributions to the theory of p-adic representations associated with modular forms.
- Jun 04, 2013: Professor V. Srinivas was elected for the Humboldt Research Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, in recognition of lifetime achievements in research.
- Jun 12, 2012: The Institute deeply regrets to inform that Professor D.N. Verma passed away on 10 June 2012. He was a member of the School of Mathematics from 1968 to 1993.
- May 15, 2012: The Institute deeply regrets to inform that Professor K. Balagangadharan passed away on 14 May 2012. He was a member of the School of Mathematics from 1951 to 1982.
