What can an algebraic geometer do for Euclidean geometry?: I will begin with the 3rd problem of Hilbert on the scissors congruence groups of Euclidean spaces. Then as we go a bit further, I will explain how this is related to some number theory problems, and some deep algebro-geometric problems in motives, as well as some remote fields such as cyclic homology.
