Algebraic hypergeometric functions: In this lecture we start with the classical hypergeometric function studied by Gauss. A classical result by H.A.Schwarz gives a classification of all such functions which are at the same time algebraic functions. We will discuss extensions of this result to the several variable case, known as A-hypergeometric functions, defined around 1989 by Gel'fand, Kapranov and Zelevinsky.
