Character sheaves on algebraic groups: The theory of character sheaves on algebraic groups is supposed to be a geometric analogue of character theory of finite groups. I will introduce the formalism of categories of $l$-adic sheaves and how they can be viewed as geometric analogues of function spaces. Now let $G$ be an algebraic group over a finite field $F$. One of the main goals of the theory of character sheaves is to study the character theory of the finite group $G(F)$ using $l$-adic sheaves on $G$. I will give a brief overview of this theory.
