On the Hot spots conjecture for Euclidean triangles: Let U be a convex subset of the Euclidean plane with piecewise smooth boundary. The Hot spots conjecture due to J. Rauch says that a global maxima of a second Neumann eigenfunction of U does not lie in the interior of U. In this talk I will give a brief survey of the known results and explain a new geometric approach that can be used to recover some of the known results in an unified way. These results are part of an on going joint project with Chris Judge.
