Characters of VOAs and invariants of torus links: Here is a curious phenomenon: (One of the two) Rogers--Ramanujan identities arises from from the Virasoro minimal model vertex operator algebra (VOA) $\mathrm{Vir}(2,5)$ and also independently, from the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ coloured Jones polynomials of the torus knot $T(2,5)$. Beginning with a brief history of Rogers--Ramanujan identities, I will explain how this relationship generalizes to the characters of various rational and non-rational VOAs.
