From random walks to a new quasi-isometry invariant:  Random walks and quasi-isometries do not usually interact well together. To remedy this problem, Sisto and I introduced a class of Markov chains that are preserved by quasi-isometries. With these new objects, we proved results about the behaviour of random walks up to quasi-isometry. Pushing this theory further led to the study of a new quasi-isometry invariant with which we can build groups with exotic properties. I will talk about these Markov chains and how to obtain a new quasi-isometry invariant from them.
