Tukia-type theorems and quasi-isometric rigidity: A Tukia-type theorem for a metric space asserts that a group of self maps with controlled distance distortion is conjugate to maps that each scale distances by fixed constants. Such theorems have applications in geometric group theory and specifically quasi-isometric rigidity. In this talk I will first describe metric spaces where Tukia-type theorems hold, certain nilpotent Lie groups, then give a brief introduction to geometric group theory and an overview of how Tukia-type theorems can be applied to solve problems in this area.
