Walking through a labyrinth: a brief introduction to Percolation theory: At a very basic level, percolation theory constitutes the simplest way to extract a random subgraph from a deterministic graph in the background. We will start the talk discussing its origin from a very simple question and then chart its evolution into one of the richest subfields of modern Probability theory. Along the way, we will talk about some deceptively simple but old problems in the area whose resolutions took several decades of mathematical development.
