Geometry and integrability in the dimer model: There are many discrete dynamical systems that arise from elementary geometric constructions and yet display unexpectedly rich behavior, a phenomenon known as integrability. A classical example is Richard Schwartz's pentagram map on convex polygons. In this talk, I will explain how the dimer model from statistical mechanics provides a unifying perspective on such systems. The talk is based on joint work with Niklas Affolter and Sanjay Ramassamy.
